For my beta video, I go into detail about what changes and iterations have taken place during the creation of my digital artefact. My Digital artefact is based on cloning, specifically 3 different parts of cloning which will be expressed through youtube, reddit, twitter and blogs. My Digital artefact consists of 3 questions 1. What is cloning, how does it exists in out world today and the ethics of cloning, 2. Popular culture and cloning and 3. What can we expect for our near future. In my pitch I stated that I will be positing 3 YouTube videos regarding each quiets ion for 3-5 minutes long, 3 blogs posts between 250-500 words long and will post each video on reddit. However the changes I have made are; I will beg posting 3 videos each 3 minutes long, 3 blog posts with a short description, 3 twitter posts and I have created my own reddit community to post each video and blog posts. I was not able top engage in much public audience and I will be putting in more effort so this can change within the future for my digital artefact.
Hey Charlotte, your concept of cloning seems really interesting and I can definitely tell that you were driven and committed to this project, although I do feel as though you are putting a lot on your plate and may need to knuckle it down. I love the determination to gain feedback and I can tell that you are really paying attention to which platform gains more interaction which is important moving forward. Just a few things to consider:
– I would recommend sticking with platforms such as Reddit and Instagram for a higher audience interaction as I do believe they are more popular and will give you higher feedback compared to WordPress (I am finding the same issue), and twitter. Twitter is good to inform your audience of when you upload a blog post or YouTube video. I wouldn’t personally use it as a main platform for feedback because from personal experience, I didn’t receive much.
– With the YT videos, I would aim for a more structured approach. I love seeing you on the screen talking rather than reading off slides like you see in most pitches and presentations (guilty as charged). If you use Microsoft PowerPoint on your computer, when you record a slide, you have an option to still include your talking on the screen however, instead of taking over the full view, you can be in a good sized square at the bottom of the screen and whilst you are talking or using a lot of information that you may find will bore audiences, you can talk whilst using the main screen as a screen recording. I find this quite engaging still.
– I would either choose to focus on human or animal cloning, not both. Both human and animal cloning have a lot of content involved, I think considering the amount of platforms you are using, you could definitely get away with focusing on one or the other. Also, gene cloning is another interesting topic 🙂
– I also agree with you in regards to dropping the blog posts, just hearing the list of things to do at the end of your beta stressed me out haha. There is already so much, I think the 3-5 minute video essays are more than enough and you can include images for screen recordings to show progress of your feedback.
– The reddit posts are good but you could do less or none at all, for example, for my video essay I am doing just 3 video essays but trying to keep them as detailed as possible. You could do the same.
You said you struggled to find information in the lectures to relate to your project, however, I found this fact sheet by the National Human Genome Research Institute on human and animal cloning and all that’s involved. It is quite an interesting read and it might help you out. https://www.genome.gov/about-genomics/fact-sheets/Cloning-Fact-Sheet
Overall, I look forward to seeing where your DA goes 🙂
