Media Audiences – Week one
American Museum of Natural History – 2018 – NYC

Hello and Welcome back to my blog! I had one of my first tutorials for BCM110 and we spoke about media audiences and how a media platform, concert or basically anything depends on an audience and how the audience reacts to product or video etc.
So, my interpretation of this topic brought me to my trip to New York in 2018 with my family, I remember this trip to the museum with my Father, he wanted to show me all the art within that museum, which he did and it opened my mind to so much more. Within this image you witness people surrounding the statues, with awe they look and judge the pieces of art, some may say art pieces do not have an audience, however without an audience, would we have art?
Yes, I understand Museums are boring and somewhat dull, however if you really take the time to just be within the space, you’ll never regret it. I remember when I took this photograph, it was on the higher level of the museum and I looked down at this little white room, to see it filled with sculptures made from stone and other mediums and as I continue to look around the room, I see more people entering and leaving the room. The room it self is very plain and ordinary, yet the art in the room brings a voice, which speaks to each and every person in that room.
Being in the setting of that room, filled with random people, witnessing the same works of art, is a feeling only some may experience and if you get the chance then I would highly recommend. The people within this room taught me to take time to just look and take in, they taught me to not be scared to learn by just looking and the artworks within the room taught me that no matter how ugly a work may look, the story behind it, is what matters. Being within that space made me feel warm and settled, each work had a different meaning to each person, especially me and I am glad I got to be apart of that audience.
Well I didn’t want this post to be too boring, but if it was then I apologise, however, my point is, is that an audience is a group of people who witness the same viewing, yes, they may feel different and may interpret the situation differently, however in that particular moment you are one with the strangers around you.
Don’t be afraid to be part of audience.
